History Society.The Appleton Le Moors Group was formed in 2006 and recently supported by a Grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund.
The Group's objective is to create a History Archive readily accessible to all and have regular formal and informal meetings to stimulate interest in the history of the Appleton-le-Moors and its people. |
We are willing to look up information for individuals researching their Family History.
Community and domestic history are of particular interest, many of the records such as Census Records, Church Registers and School Log Book and some diarys are searchable. A large collection of photographs and documents have been assembled covering the whole of the 20th Century and earlier |

The Diary of Mr F.C. Dawson 1841 - 1843 School Master at Appleton le Moors 96 A4 pages also available as a .word download (Original kindly donated by Mr John Tomlinson, Ebberstone, North Yorks) Based on a personal Diary kept for three years by Frederick while employed by the village’s benefactor Mr Joseph Shepherd, it explores the life and times of a small rural village in Yorkshire during the early years of Queen Victoria’s long reign. The Group have also researched in depth the life for Frederick before and after he came to Appleton and discovered an intriguing mixture; a rise from lowly beginnings in the East End of London to a fairly wealthy middle-class conclusion in Lincolnshire. 1st Edition 31st March 2019 The book has 140 A5 pages of which 12 are illustrations.
